Long Creek – Vernon L. Clifton, 71, of Long Creek, passed away at 11:05 p.m. August 18, 2010, in Decatur Memorial Hospital.

 

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 24, 2010, at Dawson & Wikoff Funeral Home, Mt. Zion.  Burial will be in Point Pleasant Cemetery, Long Creek with full military honors provided by the Macon County Honor Guard.  Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. till 8:00 p.m. Monday evening August 23, 2010, at Dawson & Wikoff Funeral Home, Mt. Vern was born September 4, 1938, in Warrensburg, IL the son of Delmar and Elsie (Holland) Clifton.  He married Carol Townsend on December 3, 1960.  He had served his country in the U.S. Navy.  Vern’s enjoyment in life was living and working on his farm and his family.  He loved his John Deere tractors.  He spent over fifty years in the food equipment service.

 

Surviving is his wife Carol of Long Creek; sons: Danny Clifton of Long Creek and Doug Clifton of Mt. Zion; daughter: Kathy Brelsfoard and her husband Troy of Decatur; brother: Delbert Clifton and his wife Gwen of Deland, FL; sisters: Wanda Hicks and her husband Steve of Blue Mound, and Ardella Pennington of Deland, FL.  Also surviving are four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and his granddaughter Cpl. Karen N. Clifton.

 

We all loved him dearly and he will be sadly missed by his family.

My sincerest sympathy for your loss.  I will always remember your dad as very good memories growing up in our neighborhood.  He was a very nice man and he will be dearly missed by everyone.
